SCHOLARSHIP INTERNET SEARCHES

The Internet has provided an easier way to research for scholarships. Some of the available free scholarship search sites include Scholarship Resource Network, www.srnexpress.com, and the Financial Aid Page, www.finaid.com. If the research begins at 12 to 16 months prior to the expected date of enrollment, a typical high school student should be eligible to apply for 30 to 40 different scholarships.

The best scholarship websites allow students to submit a personal profile online resulting with a list of matching scholarships for which they might qualify. Students should offer as much detail about themselves as possible. For example, someone who lists business as their chosen major may not get as many scholarship listings as, say, someone who specifies “chemical engineering.” That’s because various professional groups use grants as a way to attract talent.

Be sure to read the privacy policy posted by each site to be aware of the site’s current practices regarding privacy and information sharing. This way, you can make an informed choice about whether to share your private information.
